I have had the privilege of reading both the previous edition and the present one of The Mystical Swagman and have found each of them intriguing reading.
The new edition is a much longer story as one is taken through many stages of the The Mystical Swagman’s life and adventures.
This book is a reasonably new genre for Gary Blinco but he certainly does justice to the mystical genre allowing his imagination to know no bounds.
One is immediately transported into the Australian Outback and at times one can be convinced there is even the faintest hint of a eucalyptus perfume permeating the pages of the book. That is how realistic the tale becomes.
The Mystical Swagman follows the experiences of Brennan, an orphan boy of mysterious origins who develops mystical powers while tramping the wallaby track with two old swagmen. When Brennan discovers he is the product of a white witch and a sorcerer he uncovers many of his mystical gifts as he matures. This brings him to a myriad of experiences most of which he is unable to explain to his travelling companions.
As Brennan reaches adulthood and eventually decides to travel alone the reader experiences every emotion with him and the only regret is when one reaches the end of this exciting and endearing tale.
The story lends itself to a series as I’m sure there are more adventures to be experienced for the loveable Mystical Swagman.
