Monkey Pudding is sparsely written but in a powerful style that allows the strong dialogue to carry the story along at a fast pace. As a Vietnam Veteran and author of two books about that war I could relate to the state of mind of the key characters in the book - well done.

As an author myself most of my reading is research for my articles. I don't get a chance to read for enjoyment and relaxation. "Monkey Pudding" was the exception. The title caught my attention. But , the development of the characters and the dialog kept me immersed in the story. The plot has some history, mystery and romance. It also brought back memories of some friends I lost in Vietnam. I won't tell you what Monkey Pudding is. That will one of the many surprises you'll find as you read the book.

This book was outstanding. I couldn't put it down. I think this author is someone to watch for in the future. I hope to see more books like this one. It was a terrific read, I'd recommend it to anyone.

I am an author and publisher, and MONKEY PUDDING is a novel I would have RUN to publish ASAP, even if it would mean cranking up the presses at midnight! Well written, gritty, full of surprises, MONKEY PUDDING is a Vietnam war story with vivid combat scenes, and its just as heart-wrenching after-effects upon its protagonist, Lieutenant Steve Simmons. He returns home after discharge from the US Army, and has to wage yet another war, a war just as profound, a war of rebuilding his life up from the very bottom of hell. This book's style is no-nonsense, straightforward, like a fast-flowing river, and reads like a biography with no holds barred. No wonder, though, for Author Jerold B. Pozner's own odyssey began when he was born in New York City, the day the stock market crashed. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Germany. With his military experience, this prompted him to write a novel with a war background and he turned his attention to the Vietnam War Era, writing Monkey Pudding. The screenplay version he adapted from this novel has won various awards in several national screenplay contests. Here is to seeing Lieutenant Steve Simmons, live in vivid color, upon the big screen!

Great book. Full of surprises. This is really two books in one. It starts out with some scenes in the Vietnam war that explain a bit about the psychological makeup of the main character. Then, it follows him when he returns Stateside and tries to re-enter civilian life. While he has some flashbacks to his Vietnam experience, this is not a war story -- it is really the story of a man who tragically loses his new wife and tries to escape the pain by starting over with a new job in a new city (and a new girlfriend). The story then changes from a book about a tragic relationship to a mystery, as he tries to discover why people are trying to kill his new girlfriend. The plot twists and turns as the story proceeds to a dramatic (and romantic) conclusion. Excellent story from a masterful author.
