Agile Techniques for Managing Agile Projects

Description

While software developers appreciate the value in agile development methods such as Extreme Programming and Scrum, those sponsoring the projects hear the words "agile" and "extreme" and think "out of control" and "risky." Corporate executives funding these projects want to know that agile development projects can still be managed in a controlled manner. They are looking for a way of fitting these new project paradigms into their existing mental model of how projects should be funded, monitored, and controlled. While many agile methods download to the technical team some of the authority and responsibility normally given to managers, the managers accountable for project delivery can still play an important role.

This presentation is based upon the new book, edited by Kevin Aguanno, entitled Managing Agile Projects. Participants will come away from this presentation with an understanding of the common structural challenges of managing agile projects. To meet these challenges, participants will learn several techniques for monitoring and controlling such projects, and will come away with a list of additional resources describing each technique in further detail.
